SINGAPORE (Jan 20): Global hospitality company Pan Pacific Hotels Group has recently announced the addition of Gurney Bay Hotel in Penang, Malaysia, to its portfolio. Taking over operations of the existing Gurney Bay Hotel, the new 368-key hotel will operate under the group’s Parkroyal brand. It is also the seventh of the group’s hospitality properties in Malaysia, following the opening of Parkroyal A’Famosa Melaka Resort in February.This move is part of the group’s strategy to expand its presence in the Southeast Asian market. In addition to its existing properties in Malaysia, the group will also be launching its first Parkroyal Collection hotel in Singapore, the Parkroyal Collection Marina Bay, in April. This will be followed by the opening of Parkroyal Collection Kuala Lumpur and Parkroyal Dalian in China later this year.Starting from Sept 1, Pan Pacific Hotels Group will also embark on a phased soft renovation of Gurney Bay Hotel. Located along the Penang coastline, the hotel boasts breathtaking views of the sea and Georgetown. Its prime location, close to the heart of Georgetown city centre, makes it an ideal destination for both leisure and business travellers.Choe Peng Sum, CEO of Pan Pacific Hotels Group, believes that the addition of Gurney Bay Hotel will complement the existing Parkroyal Penang Resort in the beachfront area of Batu Ferringhi. With its range of facilities and prime location, the two hotels are poised to benefit from the expansion of Penang International Airport, which is set to become Malaysia’s second-largest airport after Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
